The Experience

The Davis Moonlight Run is a unique night-time half-marathon that takes place on a flat loop course through the city streets and well-loved greenbelts of Davis, California. With a median field of around 255 runners and a 16% repeat rate, this 10-edition series has a loyal following. Runners are advised to bring headlamps, and at the finish they are greeted with a cow-themed finisher medal, live music, and post-race refreshments including pizza, sno-cones, and a beer garden.

This is a PR-friendly course—the elevation is essentially flat, and the night running offers cooler temperatures compared to the scorching summer days. The atmosphere is festive and community-driven, with a fun beer dash and kids sprint adding to the carnival vibe. A hidden gem for those seeking a well-organized, affordable race with great post-race perks.
