The Experience

Traverse the fabulous trails of Fort Ord National Monument at the Golden State Trail Run. This premier summer event, now in its third year, showcases the monument's diverse botany, from maritime chaparral to grasslands and fields of flowers.

Runners will experience a grand tour of this former military base, with newly designed courses featuring more single-track running, sandy hills, and exposed fire roads. Expect rolling hills and a course that highlights the natural beauty of the landscape, which is truly golden in the summer.

With a median field size of around 100 finishers, the Golden State Trail Run offers a welcoming and well-supported atmosphere. Runners from approximately nine states typically participate, with about 15% returning in subsequent years, indicating a growing loyalty to this community-focused event.

The Golden State 50K/35K/Half Marathon/10K is our newest, premier summer event, traversing the fabulous trails of Fort Ord National Monument. Each course is newly designed, and different than our winter time Fort Ord Trail Runs, including new trails and more single-track running! Fort Ord National Monument has a vast array of endangered and rare species of plants and animals, some of which are rarely found outside of its boundaries. The botany on this terrain is just as diverse as the animals that roam it. Fort Ord has vegetation ranging from maritime chaparral to grasslands, marshes and gorgeous fields of flowers. The Golden State courses provide a grand tour of Fort Ord and all this former military base has to offer. Fort Ord National Monument is truly golden in the summer. Runners will be treated to rolling hills, vast fields of wildflowers, and varied terrain, including smooth single-track, sandy hills, and exposed fire roads.
