The Experience

Rocky Ridge is the punishing finale of Brazen Racing's Ultra Half Series, held in Las Trampas Regional Wilderness near San Ramon. With a modest field of around 200 runners and a 37% repeat rate, this race attracts a loyal crew of trail masochists. The course is an unrelenting figure-8 loop that clocks in at nearly 14 miles—much of it steep, rocky singletrack.

The elevation gain totals almost 4,000 feet, with climbs like Del Amigo that have runners questioning life choices. But the payoff is spectacular: sweeping views of Mount Diablo and the East Bay. As one runner notes, "This is the race your momma warned you about!" The terrain is entirely unpaved, demanding strong legs and even stronger willpower.

Finishers earn a unique metal coaster (on top of standard bling) and lifetime bragging rights. The race also features $10,500 in cash prizes—though most runners are just happy to survive. Rocky Ridge is a bucket-list challenge for trail lovers and a fitting capstone for the Ultra Half Series.

Race-provided description

This is the race your momma warned you about! The half marathon cannot be described as "flat and fast" or "good for beginners" or with any other nice phrase. In fact, the phrases most commonly used to describe it would be unprintable. But...once you finish the course, you will have experienced trails and seen views that few others ever will. And you will have a lifetime of bragging rights! The 10K and 5K are not quite as intense as the half marathon, but don't worry, those runners will also be challenged with some hills and rewarded with some rarely-seen vistas. If you are one of those brave souls ready to face either victory occasion and face this beast, come join us on September 19, 2026!
