The Experience
The City of Trees Half Marathon, first run in 2003 and now in its 23rd year, offers a scenic journey through Boise's popular Greenbelt system. This beloved event, which has seen recent fields of around 1400 finishers, draws participants from approximately 26 states, highlighting its appeal as a destination race.
The course is primarily run on the paved Boise Greenbelt, a system known for its natural beauty along the river. While typically flat with minimal elevation change, runners should be aware that the Greenbelt can present unpredictable conditions, including potential construction, flooding, or even wildlife encounters, which may necessitate route adjustments. These unique elements, however, also contribute to the memorable and engaging race experience.
Runners can expect a well-supported event with a T-shirt and finisher's award for all participants, along with post-race food and drink. While the repeat-runner loyalty stands at about 13%, the growing field trend suggests increasing popularity and a welcoming atmosphere for both new and returning runners.
Race-provided description
Sunday, October 11, 2026 Course Maps will be updated once details have been finalized. GREAT SWAG and T-SHIRT DEADLINE Comfiest long sleeve t-shirt, swag thanks to our amazing sponsors, and finisher food/drink, all COT runners get a finisher's award. Please note that registrants registering after October 1, 2026 are not guaranteed a shirt. Please note courses utilize the Boise Greenbelt system. Should we run the Greenbelt, the river can be unpredictable. Systems and entities that govern the local Greenbelt are constantly dealing with these challenges. Typical issues are created due to sidewalk construction, sinkholes, flooding, etc. During the run, you may encounter wildlife that may cause a delay in your progress and/or change in your planned route. Or you may cause your own delay to stop and listen to the amazing sounds this course creates.
