The Experience
Battle Creek's sole half marathon, first run in 2016 and now in its 9th edition, offers a unique start at Territorial Brewing Company. Runners embark on a course that winds through the grounds of the Field of Flight, providing up-close views of aircraft and the festival atmosphere.
The route then transitions to the streets and boulevards of Battle Creek, described as a fairly flat and scenic path. While noted as flat, one review suggests it "does roll a bit which is nice." The event draws participants from approximately 19 states, with a median field size of around 549 finishers, and a loyal following where about 29% return each year.
The race is lauded for its production and atmosphere, with one runner describing it as a "wonderful, small-town race" where "hot air balloons were launching into the air, creating a magical display of color!" Spectator support is noted as great, with ample aid stations and porta-potties. The finisher medals are also highlighted as quite nice, contributing to a 5.00 overall rating on RaceRaves.
