The Experience

The Port Oneida Run presents a distinctive half marathon experience set within the Port Oneida Rural Historic District, a landscape celebrated for its preserved 19th-century farms and barns. This event, now in its 14th year, winds through the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, offering a blend of crushed gravel trails, dirt roads, and paved sections, with a notable uphill challenge on Basch Road.

Runners can expect a course that combines pastoral pathways with scenic views, including proximity to Lake Michigan and the popular Pyramid Point area. The event serves as a crucial fundraiser for Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear, contributing to the ongoing preservation of this significant historical site.

With a median field size of around 69 finishers, the Port Oneida Run offers an intimate atmosphere. Participants can enjoy post-race festivities and the opportunity to explore the surrounding outdoor museum of the National Lakeshore, making it a destination for both running and historical discovery.
