The Experience

In its inaugural year atop Mount Hood, the Wyeast Trailfest half marathon offers an inviting entry into mountain trail running. With roughly 112 runners gathered from 15 states, the Sunday race is billed as a “cruisy and scenic” alternative to the weekend’s longer, more demanding events. The course traverses the alpine terrain of Oregon’s iconic peak, where wildflower meadows and sweeping views of the mountain define the experience.

The atmosphere is intimate and celebratory, with organizers promising to “cheer and shout every single runner’s name at the finish.” Post-race rewards include craft beverages, food, and lawn games at Mt. Hood Meadows. While the half marathon is designed to be approachable—perfect for first-time trail runners or those seeking a less technical adventure—the setting is anything but tame. At 8,000 feet, the thin air and ever-present mountain scenery remind you that you’re running in a truly special place, far above the lowlands.

Race-provided description

Wy'east Trailfest presented by Speedland is a celebration of mountain trail running featuring Mt. Hood’s illustrious alpine terrain. Wildly beautiful, dynamic and challenging 50 miler, 50K, 28K & 14K mountain courses reach Oregon’s alpine rooftop at 8000’ on Saturday, followed by more cruisy and scenic Half Marathon & 8K (5 miler) trail races on Sunday for those looking for a more approachable trail experience! The Kids Race rounds out the weekend in heartwarming fashion on Sunday as well. Whether racing, volunteering or spectating, join us up high on Wy'east (the native ancestral name for Mt. Hood) to honor the mountain, celebrate the sport of trail running and this incredible community. We’ll cheer and shout every single runner’s name at the finish as we celebrate with awards, great food, craft beverages, fun finish line games and activities up high at Mt. Hood Meadows.
