The Experience

The Pocahontas Trail Festival invites runners to Pocahontas State Park for its half marathon and 10k races. Held annually, this event utilizes the park's natural setting for its course.

Runners can expect a race primarily on paved surfaces within the park, with minimal elevation changes contributing to a flat profile. The event has been held for 8 editions, with a median field size of approximately 51 finishers. While the field has trended smaller, it draws participants from around 5 states.

The festival offers professionally chipped timing and live results, with awards for various age categories. Race day packet pickup is available on-site at the park's boat launch area.

RACE START TIMES:  All race starts at 9am.

Race Venue:  Pocahontas State Park 10301 State Park Rd. Chesterfield, VA 23832

The race staging area will be located about 1 1/2 miles straight into the park on State Park Rd.  Once you pass the entrance parking contact station, you continue straight, following park signs to the pool parking lot/boat launch about 1 1/2 miles down State Park Rd.  Start, finish and staging will be located on the large grass field adjacent to the boat launch.  All race activities will be located at the black and orange tents on the field

Parking:  The park regular fee is required if you don't have a state park permit.  All day parking access is currently $10 per car load on weekends.  Although the park accepts cards, cash is the fastest way to move past the contact station.

Race Day pickup: October 5 Sunday 730-9am at the staging area at Pocahontas State Park.

Timing:  Your race number will have a timing chip on the back.  Please do not fold, remove the chip.  Race numbers should be attached so numerals are right side up. Your numbers should be visible during the entire event and placement on your shirt is best as this helps with tagging any photos to your result link. If you mist pin on your shorts it needs to be visible from the front.

Award breakdown: The following will be awarded race day for the 10k and 1/2 Marathon M and F. 19 and under 20-29 30-39 40-49 50-59 60+

Course info: With the building of some new hiking trails and a redesign of the course we feel we have a great course waiting for you.

The new course has a loop course for the 10k and a larger loop for the1/2 marathon. The races will cover the first 10k together. This newer course will give you more picturesque views and a better trail race experience!  The newest built trails, on the 1/2 marathon course, are very runnable with good footing most of the way. You will be finishing your last 4+ miles on these beautiful trail (Coop and Trooper Trails).

On-course aid:  Water stations will be approximately 3, 6 and 9 miles. Best if you carry your own refillable water pack and fuel, as you will be remote much of the race.

Bathrooms:  There are two indoor bathrooms available near the start/finish.  One is located behind the soda machines (on the right side of the main pool lot) and the other near shelter #2 between the lot and the staging area.
