64th Annual Ocean Beach/John & Jessie Kelley Half Marathon

Now in its ninth year, the Ocean Beach Kelley Half Marathon is Connecticut's oldest shoreline road race. This unique event, which typically sees around 1,500 finishers, asks for a food donation in lieu of an entry fee, benefiting the Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center. Runners from about 30 states have discovered this growing race, with a loyal ~36% returning each year.

The course winds through New London and Waterford, offering panoramic views of Long Island Sound and scenic rural roads. While the course is primarily paved and noted for its support, some reviews suggest it includes hilly sections, particularly around mile 10, and that traffic may be present as streets are not fully closed. The race starts and finishes at the picturesque Ocean Beach Park, where participants can enjoy the beach and boardwalk post-race. The atmosphere is bolstered by incredible spectator support, with cheering crowds and aid stations offering water and cooling sprinklers, especially appreciated during the typical summer heat.
