The Experience
The Hogsback Half Marathon, first run in 2001 and now in its 23rd year, winds through picturesque Connecticut towns including Riverton, Pleasant Valley, Hartland, and Colebrook. Runners traverse a USATF-certified course on country roads, with a notable net elevation decrease of 100 feet, making it a prime candidate for personal bests. The course offers a mix of shade and scenic views, often alongside the Farmington River, culminating in a beautiful finish over a dam.
With a median field size of around 445 finishers and growing, the race draws participants from approximately 16 states. A loyalty rate of about 22% indicates a dedicated following. Spectators can expect about six aid stations, well-stocked with fluids and gels, and enthusiastic volunteers supporting runners throughout their journey. The event benefits Running for Rescues, a non-profit dedicated to saving shelter animals.
