The East Canyon Marathon series unfolds across a diverse Utah landscape, beginning with the full marathon's dramatic start overlooking Salt Lake City from Big Mountain Pass. Runners descend through pine and aspen forests, tracing the scenic East Canyon Reservoir before joining the half marathon course.
The route then plunges into the vibrant Red Rock Canyon, showcasing unique geological formations and expansive views. As the miles progress, the course transitions into picturesque farmland, with golden fields of grain and classic barns creating a charming rural backdrop. All distances converge at the Morgan County Fairgrounds, offering a festive conclusion to a journey through varied and memorable terrain.
Race-provided description
The East Canyon Marathon has four distances. Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K. The Full Marathon starts overlooking Salt Lake City at the Big Mountain Pass at the top of Emigration Canyon and heads East. This course follows along pine trees, aspens and follows several miles along the East Canyon Reservoir. The Full joins Half Marathon about 3/4 around East Canyon Reservoir where the Half Marathons starts and then heads down Red Rock Canyon which has great views and landscapes and unique rock formations. Around Mile 20 of the race the course turns into farmland with beautiful fields of grain and cool barns. The 10K and 5K are out and back courses that start where all distances finish at the Morgan County Fairgrounds.
